Napa River Kayak Fishing

A GUIDED or SELF GUIDED TRIP

Napa Valley Paddle offers a variety of fishing options customizable to your experience level. Our fleet includes Hobie Compass Fishing Kayaks with Mirage Drive (peddles) and Tandem Fishing Kayaks perfect for one guide + one client. We also offer proffessionally outfitted & licensed, shooting-tip fly fishing by motor boat. Your adventure is curated for your own fishing experience and style, on one of the many waterways rich with fish habitat. With over 9000 acres of preserved estuary, our expert guides will recommend the best location to fish on your desired day.
Both resident and migratory Striped Bass are abundant. Rivers feeding the San Pablo Bay also serve as an upstream migrant route for adult steelhead & salmon and downstream spring migration of the juvenile and adult steelhead. We fish for Stripped Bass exclusively. Some of the best spots on the Napa River and Carneros Wildlife Preserve are accessible only by paddle, where baitfish hide and motorized boats can not access. Set to a vineyard backdrop, paddlers glide across the tide with Mt. Tamalpais and Mt. Diablo on the horizon. Twist and turn through shallow sloughs, spy on birds feeding and catch fish in one of the most biologically diverse regions in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Our fleet includes 4 Hobbie Compass Mirage Drive Fishing Kayaks (peddles) and nine tandem fishing kayaks ideal for one guide + one client. We also offer stand up paddle boards designed specifically for fishing. Our proffessionaly guided power boat excursions feature shooting-tip fly fishing. All our vessels are outfitted for carrying gear and fishing with rod holders, storage containers and the latest technology. Fishing equipment is provided with all guided tours. We also rent our fishing kayaks, 2018 Hobbie Compass w/ Mirage Drive ($125/half day) or single/tandem fishing kayaks ($85/day)

What you can expect

Your adventure begins at the scheduled meeting time at Cuttings Wharf, Hudeman Slough or Kennedy Park in south county. After checking in with our guide you will either prepare for launch or follow him via car to the fish/ launch location. At the launch site you will be fitted for a life-preserver, given a paddle and fit for your kayak. Spinning rods or fly rods will be rigged with the 'hottest' fly or lure of the day. Our fleet cosists of 2018 Hobie Compass Fishing Kayaks with Mirage Drive (peddles) capable of speeds up to 15mph. We also offer Tandem fishing Kayaks designed to carry both the client and guide in a single vessel. All our fishing kayaks are stable and well suited for fishing. They have compartments and bungee straps for locking down water bottles and belongings. The adventure will begin with a safety briefing and introduction to the region's tides and weather. Next, review the equipment and receive complete instruction on paddling and fishing techniques for Striped Bass. Once on the water, your guide will get you to the fishing holes.

On the San Pablo Bay, you may see red-tail hawks and golden eagles hunting from the groves of trees over the marsh, migratory birds like American green-winged teal, buffleheads and Canada geese. Fish species commonly found in these waters are Striped Bass, Diamondback Sturgeon, Steelhead and Salmon. We fish for Stripped Bass exclusively with a range in size up to 30 pounds. The average catch is in the 2 - 6 pound range. You can expect to spend 4 hours on the water.
